Give us some background on your businesses.
What began as a simple experiment in our kitchen has blossomed into a heartfelt mission that resonates with families far and wide. Our journey started when my husband developed health issues causing us to take a closer look at ingredients we were consuming. Little did we know that this was only the beginning of a spark of creativity and a passion for sharing moments of joy through food. Our mission statement, “From our family to yours, we inspire the joy of creating kitchen memories through food, family, and fun by producing high-quality, all-natural syrups and ready-to-blend breakfasts while supporting sustainable packaging,” summarizes much of what we hold dear. Our all-natural syrups are more than just delicious toppings for breakfast foods; they symbolize the love and togetherness that comes from spending time with family, friends and community.
What is the story and meaning behind why you started your business?
My husband developed some health issues that got us looking closer at ingredients on labels. We used to buy the big containers of syrup from the store and he quickly realized how much high fructose corn syrup was in those containers. He decided to try making his own homemade maple syrup from his grandma’s recipe for our kids and family. After he perfected that, he experimented with other flavors. Two years later, we had our daughter hand draw our labels, sold our first few jars at a garage sale we had and sold out the first day. It officially became Daddy’s Homemade just a few short months before the pandemic hit!
In what ways has being a business owner positively impacted your life?
Being a small business owner has positively impacted our life in so many ways. We have found a passion in inspiring others along the way and seeing life from a whole new perspective. Owning a small business, especially in the CPG industry is one of the hardest things I have ever done; but also one of the most rewarding. We love having our kids be a part of the business as well as being active in our community. Along the journey, we have also been inspiring others and using our business as a platform to set an admirable example in the community. Through our story and products, we have also found that cooking and enjoying food together fosters a sense of unity and belonging that’s truly priceless. As parents, we understand the importance of building lasting memories with our children, and our syrups have become a catalyst for cherished moments that will be remembered for a lifetime and generations to come.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned about life from owning a business?
Enjoy the journey! Too often we are rushed through life and we miss all the little things.
